Full-Time High School Spanish TeacherThe Sharon Academy High School School Year:
20262027Position OverviewThe Sharon Academy (TSA) High School seeks a full-time Spanish teacher to join our collaborative and student-centered faculty community for the 20262027 academic year. This position includes teaching four core Spanish class blocks, serving as a student advisor, and teaching three elective courses as part of TSAs afternoon programming.The ideal candidate is an engaging educator who employs current, proficiency-based world language instruction and assessment practices, values strong relationships with students and families, and is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive school culture aligned with TSAs mission.
ResponsibilitiesTeaching and LearningTeach four Spanish class blocks using current, proficiency-based instructional and assessment practices.
Teach three elective courses as part of TSAs elective/afternoon programming.
Develop engaging, student-centered curriculum aligned with school standards and TSAs mission.
Update course syllabi and Program of Studies descriptions annually as requested.
Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 academic support during classes and Phoenix Block periods.
Differentiate instruction and adjust curriculum, teaching methods, and assignments to support students with 504 Plans, IEPs, and Educational Support Plans (ESPs).Maintain awareness of student support plans through TSAs Blackbaud Learning Platform and communication with the Director of Academic Services.
Establish clear classroom routines and expectations aligned with TSAs Universal Expectations.
Create and maintain a visually stimulating classroom environment that regularly displays student work and learning-related materials.
Take daily attendance and maintain accurate, timely grading and assignment records in Blackbaud.
Provide written report card comments according to school deadlines and expectations.
Record positive notes and behavioral infractions in Blackbaud in a timely manner.
Participate in faculty evaluation processes and professional growth opportunities.
Manage or co-manage and assess an Interim Committee experience.
Advisory ResponsibilitiesServe as an advisor for a group of students.
Meet with advisory groups 12 times weekly.
Communicate proactively with students and families regarding academic progress, attendance, social-emotional concerns, and school expectations.
Coordinate with support personnel and participate in Student Support Team (SST) processes and Kid Talk meetings.
Conduct two student-family conferences annually, including scheduling, documentation, and follow-up.
Support attendance monitoring, Phoenix Block callbacks, and family outreach when students are missing classes or required programming.
Collaboration and School CommunityCollaborate regularly with colleagues regarding curriculum planning, student support, and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
Attend all required faculty meetings, department meetings, in-service days, and report card reading sessions.
Participate in departmental work including proficiency benchmarks, curriculum alignment, and budget planning.
Contribute actively to the life of the school community by attending school events including orientation, information nights, field trips, performances, graduation, and other community activities.
Support a positive, inclusive, clean, and safe school environment.
Respond to school-related communication in a timely and professional manner.
Employment ExpectationsThis is a full-time (100% FTE) faculty position.
Full-time faculty are expected to be present through afternoon programming until 3:15 p.m.
Faculty work according to the TSA school calendar, including all teaching days, in-service days, and required school events.
Expected availability is generally between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Faculty may be asked to substitute for colleagues or support additional school programming as needed.
All TSA faculty are mandatory reporters under Vermont law.
QualificationsTeaching license or qualifications through education and/or experience sufficient to teach Spanish at the high school level, as approved by the Vermont Agency of Education.
Demonstrated knowledge of proficiency-based world language instruction and assessment.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and relationship-centered education.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Ability to support diverse learners and work collaboratively within a small independent school environment.
Experience advising students and building positive relationships with families preferred.
