To provide high-quality instruction in science to high school students, with an emphasis on developing scientific knowledge, inquiry skills, critical thinking, and the application of scientific concepts, aligned with District and state standards.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Be familiar with and abide by school district policies and to stay current in changes in such policies through procedures described by the Board. Establish and foster a cooperative working relationship with the staff of the building to which the teacher is assigned, as well as with other District personnel. Exercise mature and professional judgment in teaching and in associations with staff and students. Participate in professional activities as part of the teaching assignment. Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding colleagues, students, and parents. Maintain current PTSB certification in appropriate teaching area(s). Maintain adequate and current knowledge of developments within science education, including scientific practices, laboratory instruction, and content knowledge in life, physical, and earth sciences. Teach District-approved science standards, including courses such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, or other science disciplines as assigned. Utilize effective planning for each day's teaching-learning activities; clearly communicate goals and objectives; design standards-based lessons; assess student strengths and needs; evaluate student progress; and motivate students for learning tasks. Provide instruction in scientific concepts, including inquiry, experimentation, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Design and facilitate laboratory investigations, experiments, and hands-on learning experiences that reinforce scientific concepts. Guide students in applying the scientific method, developing hypotheses, collecting and analyzing data, and drawing evidence-based conclusions. Use a variety of formative and summative assessments, including lab reports, projects, and performance tasks, to evaluate student understanding and skills. Provide for reasonable care and safety of students who are assigned to them at all times. Responsible for the daily safekeeping of students in their charge; must have ability to safely escort assigned students off school premises or otherwise manage students while in emergency situations. This includes following all appropriate crisis management protocols used by the District. Provide proper care and reasonable security for all District property in their custody. Ensure safe and appropriate use of laboratory equipment, materials, and chemicals in accordance with District and safety guidelines. Maintain and manage science laboratory environments, including equipment, materials, and preparation of labs and experiments. Seek to establish a school climate, which will promote appropriate student discipline. Consistently supports and assists the building staff in maintaining order and discipline among students. Actively participates in Professional Learning Community discussions at grade and subject levels. Utilize instructional materials and other educational resources in a competent and effective manner. Make use of technology for instructional purposes as well as for record keeping, administrative and other non-instructional uses as may be required. Encourage scientific curiosity and critical thinking through inquiry-based and problem-solving approaches. Provide students with exposure to science-related careers and real-world applications of scientific concepts. Other duties as assigned.TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position will be paid according to the approved Certified Teacher Salary Schedule.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
