Highway Laborer

The Town of Avon seeks an energetic DPW Highway Laborer. Responsible for work relating to the maintenance and repair of the town's streets, sidewalks, and other public areas, and other related work as required. Applicants should have knowledge of techniques and principles of road repair and maintenance as well as snow and ice removal and must be able to perform strenuous work with the ability to operate heavy machinery and other motor equipment. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma with two years of construction and maintenance experience required. Massachusetts CDL license with airbrake endorsement, and Massachusetts Hoisting Class 2A and 1C must be obtained within one year. There is a three-month probationary period. The pay scale for Grade PW-1 is a ten-step scale ranging from $26.36 to $31.50 per hour. The starting range is between $26.36 to $27.42 per hour. The work week is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Candidates must have ability to work overtime as necessary.
