Job Description

UPMC Chautauqua is hiring a dedicated Histotechnologist to join our dynamic Histology Lab team. This position is full-time, dayshift hours. No weekends or holidays. Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience. We're excited to offer sign-on bonuses for qualified Histo Techs who join our team: • $15,000 for those with 0-1 year of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment • $20,000 for those with 1+ years of experience with a 2-year full-time commitment Plus, earn an additional $10,000 upon completion of your third year of employment . Sign-on bonuses are also available for part-time positions and will be prorated based on commitment.
Purpose:
Process and prepare specialized tissue samples per competency guidelines for this level in a clinical laboratory. In addition, monitor level and quality of work performed by others. Evaluate new procedures, techniques and tools. Resolve problems that impact test results.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. Supports academic mission of department. Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters.
