Job Description

The City of Caldwell Golf Department is looking for an Assistant Golf Professional to join their team. This individual assists in managing those activities related to the play of golf; administers leagues and golf tournaments; ensures special events and daily golf operations run efficiently; assists with the management and operations of the city's golf course pro shops; directs, plans, organizes, manages, and supervises activities related to the play of golf; and performs professional and technical tasks related to promoting, teaching, and developing golf within the community. The work is performed under the supervision of the Golf Professional; leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of this class are performed in an indoor and outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards. Tracks and verifies all player and guest charges. Provides golf technique and product knowledge information. Monitors golf course patrons and sets tee times to coordinate pace of play. Ensures customer satisfaction and service. Responds to customer's questions, comments, complaints, and inquires in a courteous and timely manner. Assists in the management of the pro shop including merchandizing and concessions; provides adequate and quality inventory of golf clothes and equipment; and cleans, sweeps, and re-stocks shelves. Makes recommendations regarding product and service availability for patron needs. Assists with retail customer sales and service, Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions, special orders for customers; and creates purchase orders. Performs physical inventories to validate counts and to protect the city's merchandise assets; investigates inventory discrepancies and reports to the finance department. Performs year-end inventory and coordinates year-end closing in coordination with the finance department and audit staff. Coordinates golf course services and operations; and promotes events. Develops, administers, and coordinates tournaments and league programs. Administers member tournament winning accounts. Ensures facilities are operational for tournaments and special events. Trains, administers, and directs temporary seasonal staff. Trains others on golf instruction and management of the instruction programs. Conducts golf lessons for patrons utilizing various training techniques and methods tailored to the customer's individual needs and retains a portion of lesson fees as compensation. Answers questions and provides feedback and guidance on instruction and management of lessons. Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with city policies, procedures, and safety practices. Consistently keeps supervisor and relevant team members informed about work progress, current and potential issues, and proactively suggests new or improved solutions to address challenges. Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and remains current on the principles, practices, and developments in assigned work areas. Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Graduation from high school or possession of a GED. At least two years' experience working at a golf course, progressively responsible experience working in a golf course environment, coordinating tournaments, and providing lessons for patrons.
Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements:
Possession of a current and valid driver's license. PGA Level 1 golf professional or enroll in the Professional Golf Management Program within 12 months from hire date. Subject to a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Must be able to work varying shift hours, including evenings and weekends.
