$60,000 to $65,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. SONM provides options for health, dental, insurance, and 403b retirement.Purpose :
The Director of Inclusive Health & Athlete Leadership provides strategic leadership to advance athlete well-being, inclusive health, and leadership development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This role oversees the implementation and growth of SONM's Healthy Athletes and Healthy Communities programs while elevating athlete voice and leadership across all areas of programming. Working collaboratively across SONM departments and with community partners, this position ensures that health and leadership opportunities are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with SONM's mission of providing year-round sports training and competition.Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in public health, health promotion, education, recreation, social work, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in program management, community-based programming, or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) or in inclusive programming environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs and prioritize multiple projects at a time.
- Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience coordinating events, trainings, and community initiatives.
- Experience in grant management, data tracking, reporting, and program evaluation.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to work weekends, evenings, and travel statewide.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Responsibilities:
Inclusive Health Strategy and Partnerships- Lead the vision and direction for SONM's inclusive health initiatives, aligning with organizational priorities and national Special Olympics efforts.
- Build and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, universities, government agencies, and community organizations to expand access to care for individuals with IDD.
- Represent SONM as a leader in inclusive health, supporting advocacy efforts, partnerships, and community engagement opportunities.
- Champion a culture where athletes are empowered to take an active role in their own health and wellness. Grant Management
- Lead development and management of health-related grants, including implementation, reporting, and compliance.
- Collaborate with SONM's development team to identify funding opportunities related to health and athlete leadership. Program Development & Implementation
- Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of SONM's Healthy Athletes and Healthy Communities programs.
- Develop strategies to address barriers to healthcare access, promote healthy lifestyles, and support overall athlete well-being.
- Collaborate with sports staff to integrate health and leadership into sports training and competition.
- Develop and manage program budgets in coordination with SONM leadership. Athlete Leadership & Engagement
- Develop and oversee statewide Athlete Leadership programming and create meaningful opportunities for athletes to grow as leaders within SONM and their communities.
- Support athletes in serving as health ambassadors, peer educators, and spokespersons within Unified Champions Schools, health initiatives, and sports programming.
- Provide training, mentorship, and resources that build athlete confidence, communication skills, and leadership capacity. Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities to fulfill the Special Olympics New Mexico mission as assigned by the Chief Program Officer and/or the Chief Executive Officer.
