Job Description

Budget title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)
Salary:
$57,151 The Division of Athletics at Binghamton University seeks two dedicated and student-centered Academic Advisors to support the academic success, retention, and holistic development of Division I student-athletes. These roles blend traditional academic advising responsibilities with innovative student-athlete services programming, ensuring compliance with NCAA standards while fostering leadership, career readiness, and personal growth. These positions report to the Associate Director of Athletics-NCAA Compliance and Student Services. The Athletics Academic Advisors support our student-athletes in multiple ways:
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to assigned Division I student-athletes, including course selection, degree planning, and progress toward graduation
  • Monitor academic performance and eligibility in accordance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations
  • Collaborate with coaches, faculty, and campus partners to support student-athlete success
  • Design and implement structured academic support plans for at-risk student-athletes
  • Facilitate study halls, academic workshops, and learning strategy sessions
  • Maintain accurate and confidential academic records and reports
  • Assist with all aspects of NCAA academic eligibility
  • Assist in coordinating and executing programming focused on leadership development, career readiness and life skills
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to provide opportunities and initiatives that support student-athlete growth The ideal candidate would possess the following:
  • Ability to build rapport with student-athletes from diverse backgrounds
  • A problem-solving and proactive advising approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic athletics environment
  • Commitment to holistic student development and well-being
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) Experience working with students Interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred:
Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Sports Management, or a related field Experience working with student-athletes or within an athletics academic support unit Experience in Division I athletics academic advising or student-athlete development programming Familiarity with degree audit systems and academic tracking software Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
