Job Description

About us Bread Bike Bakery is a small organic bakery in San Luis Obispo, California. Celebrating its 7th year in business, the bakery specializes in 100% organic naturally leavened bread and California-style pastries made from fresh-milled whole grains and locally-sourced ingredients. We work directly with organic farmers throughout California to source grains that we stone mill in house daily. Through our work, we strive to cultivate, educate, and inspire an inclusive community that cares about their food, their farmers, their planet, and each other. We are looking to hire for a Production Baker that will focus on our Bread Production. There will be some cross-training to support our Pastry Production. Responsibilities will vary for the specific position but will include the following:
Responsibilities Include:
Mixing and Baking:
Measure and mix all ingredients with precision to ensure consistent product quality Mix all batters, doughs, etc. as per daily processes and production schedules. Operate and maintain all baking equipment properly. Bake off product during the morning shift according to required quantities Bake off product throughout the day according to scheduled production needs Supporting Pastry Production with some cross-training
Quality Control:
Conduct quality checks on ingredients and finished products. Ensure that products meet or exceed quality and taste standards. Address any issues related to product consistency or quality.
Preparation:
Follow daily schedules to produce necessary product on a daily basis Engage in production prep including scaling dry mixes, toasting and soaking ingredients, chopping/roasting vegetables, butter preparation, etc. Adhere to health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation.
Cleaning:
Take responsibility for cleaning tasks throughout the shift including sweeping, washing dishes, wiping down surfaces, and trash disposal. Thoroughly clean at the end of the shift.
Set-Up and Maintenance:
Maintain equipment and tools ensuring cleanliness and longevity Refill ingredient containers as needed. Organize and consolidate storage spaces for easy accessibility. Upkeep freezer and fridge organization.
General:
Strive for consistency and excellence in all tasks, double-checking work as necessary. Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with other bakery staff. Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required by bakery production schedules. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing visually appealing and high-quality products. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Complete daily checklists ensuring product quality and adherence to processes. Abide by all guidelines and instructions in the General Employee Handbook. Maintain a current CA Food Handler's Permit.
Position Requirements:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a commercial food facility. Minimum 1-year experience as a professional baker. Have endurance to work hours needed to complete production. Must be able to lift 50# without assistance. Comfortable standing for extended periods. Basic math skills and understanding of baker's math Must have knowledge of bakery equipment-mixers, ovens, scales, sheeters, proofers, etc.
