) Violet Crumb Wheaton, IL Job Details Part-time $18 - $22 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Teamwork Baking Culinary Arts Attention to detail Time management Full Job Description Violet Crumb is a scratch-made neighborhood bakery in downtown Wheaton. Donuts are the thing, but the menu changes constantly. One week it's brown butter old fashioneds and cherry danish, the next it's laminated pastry, seasonal specials, and a pastry case full of things people travel to town for. Everything here is made by hand. We care a lot about flavor, texture, consistency, and details people may not notice outright but absolutely feel. Production days start early, move fast, and require real attention. This is not a "follow the recipe and zone out" kind of kitchen. We're looking for someone who genuinely cares about the craft, moves with urgency, and wants to help build something special. The right person is reliable, adaptable, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure. You should be comfortable figuring things out, learning quickly, and jumping between prep, fry, finishing work, and whatever else the day needs. This is a hands-on production role. Expect early mornings, flour everywhere, fryer heat, constant movement, and a kitchen that moves fast and changes constantly.
THE ROLE
Part-time, 12 to 20 hours per week with room to grow
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
We are open Thursday through Sunday.
Availability must include:
Early mornings Thursday through Sunday starting as early as 3 to 4am and earlier on Saturdays Evening prep shifts Wednesday through Saturday Flexibility across both prep and production is required. PAY Hourly pay starts at $18 and scales with experience
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Mix doughs, batters, fillings, glazes, and toppings from scratch Fry donuts with consistency, awareness, and attention to detail Glaze, fill, finish, and decorate products for the pastry case Support prep and production flow throughout the shift Help maintain a clean, organized, efficient kitchen Jump into dish, reset, restocking, and whatever else keeps the kitchen moving
EXPERIENCE
At least 1 to 2 years of professional kitchen or baking experience required Culinary or pastry school can count if paired with hands-on experience This is not a home baking or entry-level role
WHO YOU ARE
Detail-oriented and highly observant Fast-moving without getting sloppy Reliable and self-directed Calm under pressure and adaptable on the fly Someone who notices problems early and handles them The kind of person who takes real pride in making things well
REQUIREMENTS
Reliable transportation Ability to consistently arrive for early morning shifts
