Position Summary:
Working overnight, the Baker will produce a variety of fresh donuts, paczkis, and other baked goods for our onsite bakery while accurately fulfilling wholesale orders. The ideal candidate is a passionate baker with strong organizational and digital literacy skills, and a heart for service. The Baker oversees daily baking operations in a full-service commercial kitchen, ensuring the preparation and timely delivery of orders. This role involves planning, compliance with health and safety regulations, cost effective inventory management and control, and supervision of Transitional Employees and volunteers. The following list of duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive, other tasks and functions may be assigned by the Director of Advancement or the Executive Director. The ideal baker must have previous experience making both cake and raised donuts in a commercial kitchen.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Production and Baking:
Prepare and bake donuts, paczkis, and other baked goods according to established recipes and standards. Ensure all baked goods meet quality and presentation standards. Maintain consistency in product size, shape, and taste.
Order Fulfillment and Management:
Accurately track, manage, and fulfill wholesale and onsite bakery orders using a digital order management system. Update order statuses, track inventory, and ensure timely and accurate order completion. Collaborate with team members to manage order volumes and prioritize tasks efficiently. Supervise transitional employees.
Supply Management:
Monitor inventory levels of baking ingredients, supplies, and packaging materials. Communicate supply orders and needs promptly to the Bakery Manager or the Director of Advancement to maintain inventory levels and avoid disruptions in production.
Onsite Bakery Support:
Stock and display fresh products in the onsite bakery. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Operational Duties:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and storage. Operate and maintain bakery equipment. Communicate with the bakery manager on a regular basis knowing what is selling and what is not, in order to properly address demand. Qualifications:
Proven experience as a baker or in a related role, preferably with experience in making donuts and paczkis. Familiarity with digital order management systems and the ability to accurately track and manage orders. Strong communication skills for effectively coordinating with management regarding supply needs. Knowledge of baking techniques, methods, and food safety regulations. Overnight shift, with potential for early morning or weekend work as needed. Fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements:

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; culinary training or certification preferred. Active ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain upon hire. Experience in a supervisory role within a commercial or institutional kitchen setting preferred. Experience in menu planning and food preparation. Knowledge of Michigan Food Establishment Licensing requirements preferred. Ability to develop and implement training protocols for volunteers and Transitional Employees. Commitment to the mission and values of Carriage Town Ministries, including adherence to the Statement of Faith and Employee Handbook policies. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, with no violations during inspections. Consistent delivery of orders on schedule, meeting nutritional and quality standards. Effective inventory management, minimizing food waste and operating within budget constraints. Positive feedback from the community related to quality products. Achievement of cost savings through optimized supply orders and efficient resource utilization. Development of optimized staff schedules that ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel.
