Cake Decorator

Job Summary:

The Cake Decorator is responsible for creating, designing, and decorating cakes, cupcakes, and other specialty desserts to Compare Foods' standards for quality, appearance, and taste. S/he provides excellent customer service by engaging with guests to design custom cakes, fulfilling orders on time, and ensuring all decorated products meet customer expectations. This role includes preparing icings and fillings, decorating according to company standards or customer specifications, maintaining product displays, and ensuring proper rotation and freshness. Essential Job Responsibilities

• Must have a love & passion for food, with a creative flair for cake and dessert design.
• Possess extensive knowledge of icings, fondant, piping, and decorative techniques, as well as Compare Foods' bakery offerings.
• Consult with customers to determine design, flavor, and decoration needs for custom orders.
• Prepare icing, fondant, fillings, and decorative elements from scratch or from prepared bases.
• Decorate cakes, cupcakes, and specialty desserts according to customer specifications or company designs.
• Ensure that all decorated products are visually appealing, properly labeled, and meet portion control and quality standards.
• Maintain and rotate decorated cake displays to ensure freshness and appeal.
• Package, label, and price products for self-service or special orders.
• Assist with merchandising displays to maximize sales of decorated cakes and other bakery products.
• Receive, organize, and restock decorating supplies and ingredients.
• Properly use decorating tools, piping bags, airbrush machines, and other bakery equipment.
• Maintain sanitation requirements in the work area, including cleaning and sanitizing tools, tables, and storage areas.
• Follow food safety and temperature log procedures.
• Assist all customers in a friendly and timely manner, including handling last-minute requests when possible.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting general bakery production as needed.

• High School Diploma or equivalency with 1-3 years of experience in cake decorating, bakery, or similar environment (formal cake decorating training preferred).
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction). Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow team members.
• Strong artistic ability, attention to detail, and manual dexterity for precise decorating work.
• Ability to work under time constraints and handle multiple orders at once.
• Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.
• Must be 18 to use sharp knives or operate powered equipment, ladders, scaffolds, or their substitutes above 6 feet in height. Work Environment / Physical Demands
• Duties are performed primarily in the bakery production area. The Cake Decorator may be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments.
• Work includes standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, grasping decorating tools, lifting and carrying products weighing up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling up to 100 pounds.
• Must have the physical ability for repetitive motions such as piping, rolling fondant, and decorating for extended periods.

Pay:

$14.00 - $16.00 per hour
