Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Baker will craft Levantine inspired sweet and savory pastries that define Manna Bakery's reputation with consistency, care, creativity, and craftsmanship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production & Baking ▪ Prepare and bake a full range of products including artisan breads, pastries, cookies, and seasonal specialties ▪ Scale and mix doughs and batters accurately using both commercial mixers and hand techniques ▪ Manage fermentation, proofing, and shaping of naturally leavened and yeast-based breads ▪ Operate deck ovens, convection ovens, and proofing equipment safely and efficiently ▪ Decorate and finish products to Manna Bakery's quality and aesthetic standards Food Safety & Kitchen Standards ▪ Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times ▪ Follow all Philadelphia Department of Public Health food safety requirements and HACCP guidelines ▪ Properly label and date all products; adhere to FIFO inventory rotation ▪ Communicate allergen information accurately and flag cross-contact risks Operations ▪ Collaborate on recipe development, production scheduling, and seasonal menus ▪ Assist in receiving and inspecting ingredient deliveries ▪ Participate in opening procedures and pre-production prep Team Culture ▪ Support a positive, respectful kitchen culture ▪ Bring passion, attention to detail, curiosity, and pride ▪ Commitment to growth and creativity
QUALIFICATIONS
Required ▪ Minimum 1-2 years of professional baking or pastry experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, or restaurant ▪ Ability to work early morning shifts, weekends, and holidays ▪ Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a warm kitchen environment ▪ Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent quality Preferred ▪ Formal culinary or pastry arts training (degree, certificate, or apprenticeship) ▪ Experience with naturally leavened breads, laminated doughs, or cake decorating ▪ Valid ServSafe Food Handler certification ▪ Familiarity with dietary restrictions including gluten-free, vegan, and nut-free baking protocols Work is performed in a kitchen environment. Conditions include heat from ovens, slippery floors, and the operation of sharp and heavy equipment.
