Retail Staff Reports to: Store Manager Role Summary Prepares, cooks, packages, and merchandises hot and cold food items for customer purchase. Maintains a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen environment and provides attentive customer service at the counter. Follows established recipes, portion standards, and food handling procedures to deliver a consistent, quality product. Essential Responsibilities Food Preparation & Production Prepare, cook, slice, and package hot and cold food items, deli products, prepared salads, and party trays according to established recipes andportionstandards. Operate kitchen equipment includingknives,slicers, ovens, and related machinery safely and correctly; follow all equipment operating procedures. Monitor food temperatures throughout preparation and holding to ensure compliance with food safety standards. Label and date all prepared items accurately; rotate product using FIFO and remove any items that have exceeded code dates. Communicate inventory needs and low-stock observations to the Store Manager promptly. Customer Service Greet customers and provide prompt, knowledgeableassistancewith product questions, selections, and special requests. Use suggestive selling techniques to highlight daily specials,new items, and complementary products. Resolve customer concerns,escalate issues that cannot be resolved on the spot to the Store Manager. Merchandising & Display Stock andmaintainfood display cases throughout the shift; ensure product is properly faced, labeled, and presented. Keep display areas clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times. Ensure all displayed items are accurately priced and withincodedate. Sanitation, Safety & Compliance Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including prep surfaces, equipment, utensils, and surrounding floor areas; clean and sanitize equipment after each use. Follow all food safety and personal hygiene standards, including proper handwashing, glove use, and cross-contamination prevention. Monitor and record food temperatures asrequired; report any equipment or temperature compliance issues to the Store Managerimmediately. Keep walkways and work areas free of hazards; address spills and safety concernsimmediately. Follow all company policies related to food handling, waste, and safe equipment operation. Qualifications Prior food preparation ordeliexperiencerequired. Food safety certification preferred; PJP Marketplace will support certification for candidates who do not hold one at the time of hire. Ability tooperatecommercial kitchen equipment, including slicers, fryers, and ovens, safely and effectively. Strong attention to detail for food quality, portioning, labeling, and code date compliance. Reliable attendance and ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Work Schedule Part-time or full-time hourly role. Schedule varies and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Overtime must be pre-approved by the Store Manager. All time must be recorded accurately in accordance with company procedures. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Work is performed in a kitchen and retail environment and requires sustained mobility throughout the shift. The role involves frequent standing and walking, regular bending, reaching, and lifting, and sustained use of hands for food preparation and equipment operation. Must be able to lift and maneuver items up to 50 pounds. Work regularly includes exposure to a wide range of temperatures, including cooking surfaces and ovens up to 350°F, refrigerated cases around 35°F, and freezer environments as low as -20°F. Physical demands vary by task and should be performed using safe work practices.
