About The Village Bakery and Cafe The Village Bakery & Cafe opened in May 1995 and is located in Pendleton Square, South Carolina. Since then, The Village Bakery and Cafe has been serving both traditional and quality interpretations of classic dishes at the cafe side and daring new ventures into the sweet, mouth-watering pastries, cookies, and desserts at the bakery side, where this position will be functioning. The cafe's interior reflects the hip sensibilities of the surrounding area while also paying tribute to the square's storied past. The multi-sectioned business offers the choice to enjoy a nice breakfast or lunch & then go enjoy some delicious sweets. Or you can watch the art of baking as it occurs in the open bakery. Job Summary The Village Bakery and Cafe is looking to hire a new baker. This position is ideal for an individual who loves baking bread, pastry, cookies, cakes, and other desserts. The baker will be producing different basic breads for sale at the bakery side (e.g., white, sourdough, 9-grain, cracked wheat with cranberry, baguettes, and jalapeno cheddar), and more specialty ones for different occasions, such as cross hot buns, stolen bread, challah bread, focaccia, and ciabatta, while leaving room for creativity. Additionally, the baker will be responsible for producing the breads that are used at the cafe side of the business, such as brioche buns, rosemary focaccia buns, challah bread, English rounds, biscuits, white, sourdough, cracked wheat, 9-grain bread, etc. On the pastry and dessert side, the baker will be responsible for producing all pastries and desserts for the counter, catering orders, and special occasions (e.g., pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas), and festivals that happen at the Pendleton square (e.g. Spring Jubilee, Fall Festival, etc). The desserts range will include, but not be limited to: danishes, cinnamon rolls, apple turnovers, gallettes, cookies, pecan crisps, pinch cookies, strudels, almond cookies, brownies, lemon bars, eclairs, cake slices, 6'' cakes, coconut macarons, etc. The baker is responsible for making the dough and baking, but the bakery staff and the cake decorator will help with mixing the dough, baking, and finishing the desserts for display and for customers' orders and special occasions. Hours Tuesday - Saturday 04:00 am-11:00 am•

Flexible Hours:

The products need to be ready and displayed by 07:30 am. Therefore, hours depend on the preparations made in advance, orders, requests, and seasonality (Game Days for the Clemson University Football Team). Requirements Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Excellent baking and pastry knowledge (i.e., pastry dough, puff pastry dough, mixing cookies, brownies, cakes, buttercreams, ganache, cheese filling, custard, etc.) Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to use industrial equipment (e.g., industrial mixer and ovens) Able to work on the feet for 8-12 hours. Flexibility with hours and days off.

Pay:

$40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
