Main Job Responsibilities This position is the lead on all cupcake baking and decorating. They also oversee decorated cookies (with the help from other staff as needed). Keeps cake frostings and fillings in stock: Preparing homemade frostings, caramels, chocolate mousse, and fruit curds. Although rare
- this position may be asked to help with a delivery. This position is about 32 hours per week
- although there might be peak times were extra hours are required. This position starts at 5AM Tuesday
- Saturday.
The shift typically ends around 11:00AM.
As with any bakery position:
the ability to work quickly and efficiently is key. Other job responsibilities include standard bakery roles including: helping with bakery cleanliness, following health department regulations, helping delivery cakes/pastry orders, helping cover shifts when other staff are on vacation, helping with customer service, answering phones, etc. We are willing to train the right person/ but the ability to pick up cupcake decorating quickly is required. Responsibilities (Critical behaviors associated with this role): Being able to follow recipe instructions at all times Being able to uphold product guidelines and standards at all times. Uphold Meringue cake "branding" and style cakes in a way that compliments our bakery expectations and standards. The ability to be kind and thoughtful to clients even if you are personally not having the best day. Maintaining a clean vehicle as well as a current driver's license and car insurance (in the event of cake and dessert deliveries) Help bake & build cakes Help prepare all cake components including buttercreams, curds, jams, mousses, etc. This position is responsible for helping clean the bathrooms and vacuum the hallways when assigned. All staff are required to occasionally help fill in for other staff when they are sick or when they are taking vacation. This may include working during a shift you are normally not scheduled for. Maintain bakery cleanliness. Be proactive in finding solutions to problems and being an active participant in helping solve bakery problems Maintain a positive work environment Approach people with kindness Avoid sarcasm or deflecting negative feelings with indirect statements Outbursts are never tolerated Follow the chain of command for dealing with standard co-worker conflicts. This includes first talking with the employee before you put in a complaint with management Do your dishes in a timely manner Leave the kitchen cleaner then how you found it Being a "team player" is imperative for this role. We are a small business and all staff help each other when needed Making sure your deadlines for product/baking/orders are met Making sure you arrive to work consistently at your scheduled time Making sure to keep up with production and not let tasks "snowball" for the end of the week Making sure to document when product is low and forecasting when you will need product ahead of time Making sure to leave your workspace clean and keeping communal areas organized Having great communication skills Meringue Bakery needs staff who are willing to be creative and suggest new menu items and explore unique menu offerings.
