We are looking for a dependable, ministry-minded Coffee Roaster & Espresso Cart Associate to join our team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys coffee, is curious and teachable, takes pride in quality work, and wants to contribute to a mission-driven organization. Position Summary The Coffee Roaster & Espresso Cart Associate will be trained to support coffee production and operate Volente's mobile espresso cart for select events. The primary focus of this position will be roasting, packaging, labeling, organizing inventory, and preparing retail and wholesale coffee orders. The employee will also be trained on espresso-cart setup, drink preparation, customer service, and event operations so they can help represent Volente at weddings, churches, workplace events, and other community gatherings. This position will work closely with the Volente manager, staff, and New Life Program participants. The right candidate will model reliability, humility, professionalism, strong work habits, and a willingness to serve others. ResponsibilitiesCoffee Roasting and Production Roast coffee according to established roast profiles using a commercial coffee roaster. Learn and follow Volente's roast-production procedures, quality standards, and recordkeeping practices. Monitor roast data and communicate questions, inconsistencies, or quality concerns to the manager. Weigh, package, seal, label, and organize coffee for retail, wholesale, and special orders. Prepare and stage wholesale, retail, and event orders for pickup, delivery, or service. Organize green coffee, roasted coffee, packaging materials, and production supplies. Assist with inventory counts, receiving deliveries, and maintaining an orderly production space. Perform routine cleaning and basic upkeep of roasting, packaging, and production equipment. Follow food-safety, cleanliness, and workplace-safety procedures. Espresso Cart and Event Service Receive training on Volente's mobile espresso cart, espresso equipment, grinders, drink recipes, and event setup procedures. Assist with loading, transporting, setting up, operating, cleaning, and breaking down the espresso cart for events. Prepare espresso drinks and other coffee beverages according to Volente standards. Provide warm, professional customer service at events and community gatherings. Help ensure event equipment, supplies, water, coffee, and service materials are prepared and accounted for. Team and Mission Support Work respectfully and professionally alongside staff and New Life Program participants. Help create an encouraging work environment where participants can learn practical job skills and healthy workplace habits. Model punctuality, follow-through, humility, teachability, and attention to detail. Support the Christian, ministry-centered mission and values of Modesto Gospel Mission and Volente Coffee Roasters. Assist with other coffee, production, event, delivery, or operational needs as assigned. Qualifications Experience in coffee, food service, hospitality, retail, production, or another hands-on customer-facing environment is preferred. Commercial coffee-roasting experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate. Genuine interest in coffee and willingness to learn about roasting, espresso preparation, and coffee quality. Enjoys drinking and sampling black coffee as part of learning, quality checks, and product familiarity. Curious, observant, and interested in learning why coffee tastes and performs differently. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow repeatable processes consistently. Dependable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work independently after training. Comfortable working on feet for extended periods and moving coffee, boxes, and supplies up to [50] pounds. Strong communication skills and a collaborative, teachable attitude. Comfortable interacting with customers at events and representing Volente professionally. Able to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends for scheduled events. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a barista, café employee, coffee-shop employee, food-service employee, or production worker. Experience working with espresso machines and grinders. Experience with customer service, catering, mobile service, events, or hospitality. Experience mentoring, training, or working alongside individuals developing employment skills. Familiarity with inventory, packaging, order fulfillment, or warehouse organization.

Schedule and Compensation Expected schedule:

Approximately 20 hours per week focused on roasting and production, with potential additional hours for scheduled espresso-cart events.

Pay range:

$20.00-$22.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
