We operate a bustling retail bakery and coffee shop, have a large wholesale program, and fulfill special orders each day. We take pride in our products and our customer experience, and enjoy connecting with our community through all things gluten free. The Barista / Front Counter position is an integral part of our front-of-house team.Responsibilities include:
Demonstrating excellent customer service: Engaging with customers in an authentic way and creating a space where people feel welcome. Having knowledge of dietary allergens and a gluten-free lifestyle, and helping customers navigate our bakery case and beverages with their needs in mind. Having a general awareness of food allergies and potential cross-contamination, and handling baked goods appropriately. Packing orders efficiently and accurately. Assisting customers with placing or picking up special orders, and providing the proper storage and transport instructions. Understanding our ordering channels and directing customers to the appropriate one. Answering phone calls. Handling customer service issues with grace and escalating to the front-of-house manager, general manager or owner as needed. Operating the Square POS register.Crafting delicious beverages:
Building drinks according to Sift Gluten Free recipes. Understanding how to adjust the espresso grinder to pull consistent shots. Batch brewing coffee and making cold brew and iced tea as needed. Understanding first in first out and rotating milk and other beverages accordingly. Restocking the reach-in cooler and beverage supplies as needed. Working at a swift pace while remaining calm in a busy environment. Managing time productively. Opening and closing the coffee shop: Complete general opening tasks, including but not limited to: putting down chairs; setting out garbage bins; turning on freezer and bakery case lights; brewing coffee and setting the espresso grinder; opening window shades. Complete general closing tasks, including but not limited to: zeroing out item inventory; closing the espresso machine; packaging day-old items for the retail freezer; sanitizing all surfaces; sweeping and mopping; washing dishes; emptying trash; restocking coffee and paper supplies. Completing tasks as needed throughout your shift: Using the laminated checklists to complete tasks specific to your shift. Keeping the coffee shop area clean and welcoming for customers: all floors swept and surfaces sanitized throughout the day as needed. Restocking the bakery case as needed. Restocking the retail freezer as needed. Completing the day's assigned cleaning tasks, including but not limited to the bathrooms, pass-through, counters, glass, lighting, baseboards, backsplash, etc. Folding and stickering boxes and stamping bags. Stickering packaging for wholesale customers. Completing dishes throughout the day as there is downtime. Communicating clearly with fellow team members and leadership. Possessing the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Our Baristas/Front Counter Staff must:
Have a minimum of 1-2 years of barista experience, as well as food service experience Have a positive, professional and problem-solving attitude Feel comfortable opening and closing the coffee shop by themselves once fully trained Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with coworkers and management Have strong time managementPhysical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk and work for the duration of a shift in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform other physical tasks like bending and climbing stairs. Ability to work in a coffee shop/kitchen environment with noise, heat and general busyness.
