Job Description
Position Summary As a Bartender/Server at Symposium Wine Bar, you will play a key role in delivering a thoughtful, wine-driven guest experience. This position goes beyond traditional service, you will guide guests through curated wine selections, craft cocktails, and food options while providing polished, attentive hospitality. We are seeking someone who is confident in both bartending and serving, with a foundation in beverage knowledge, hospitality, and a genuine interest in continued learning. This is a service-driven role for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys guiding guests through a thoughtful, elevated experience. We're looking for people who will take pride in being part of our team. What We're Looking For (Required)
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- 2+ years of bartending AND serving experience, with current or recent experience required
- Foundational knowledge of wine, beer, and classic cocktails (ability to speak to varietals, styles, and basic pairings)
- Ability to deliver attentive, hospitality-driven service and confidently guide the guest experience
- Reliable and consistent availability, including opening shifts, evenings, weekends, and events
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Strong sense of professionalism, accountability, and commitment to maintaining a respectful and team-oriented work environment
- Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
- Experience with POS systems and responsible cash handling
- Commitment to responsible alcohol service (training provided) Key Responsibilities Guest Experience Create a welcoming, elevated atmosphere that encourages guests to explore and enjoy Foster a respectful and positive environment for both guests and team members Wine & Beverage Service & Knowledge Guide guests through wine and beer service, and prepare craft cocktails and non-alcoholic offerings with consistency and precision Demonstrate a strong foundational understanding of wine, beer, and cocktails, including varietals, styles, and pairing principles to help guests make informed, personalized selections Actively participate in ongoing wine education, tastings, and team training Food Service Obtain a thorough understanding of Symposium's menu offerings and pairing opportunities Take and deliver food orders with accuracy and attention to presentation Operations & Standards Maintain Symposium Wine Bar's standards of cleanliness and organization of bar and service areas Follow all New York State alcohol service laws and regulations, including proper ID verification Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards, including proper food handling techniques Support team members to ensure smooth, efficient service Compensation & Schedule • Part-time, hourly position • Base hourly rate: $11-$13/hour, plus tips (strong earning potential based on experience and shift availability) • Reliable and consistent availability required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 lbs Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Additional Requirements- Must comply with all New York State alcohol service laws and regulations
