CLASS DEFINITION

This class is accountable for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food and cleaning the food service areas at a juvenile detention center.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the close supervision of a Food Services Coordinator or other employee of higher grade.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Prepares and serves meals according to menu plans; receives and stores food and kitchen supplies; cleans and assists in maintaining the kitchen, dining area, and equipment; operates kitchen equipment; observes strict compliance with federal and state regulations on safe and nutritious food preparation and service; performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL

AND ABILITY

Knowledge of food preparation and service; knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures in food service; knowledge of federal and state regulations on nutrition and safety of food preparation and service; basic interpersonal skills; basic oral and written communication skills; basic computer skills.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

General Experience:

One (1) year of experience in food preparation in a commercial or institutional setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Incumbents may be required to provide periodic medical verification of absence of infectious and communicable diseases as identified by the Secretary of Health and Human Services as transmittable through the handling of food.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be required to lift; may be exposed to some risk of injury from kitchen equipment.
