Job Description

Join the Marietta City Schools nutrition team and make a difference one meal at a time — apply today and start fueling the next generation! School Nutrition / Cafeteria Services Marietta, GA $15/hr Part-Time / On-Demand Shifts are typically scheduled around school meal service periods (breakfast and/or lunch). Hours vary based on school need and are generally part-time, aligning with the school day. Shifts are flexible and based on operational demand. We usually respond within a day A Day in the Life Your day begins before the first bell rings. You arrive at the school kitchen, review the day's menu, and begin preparing food items using standardized recipes and approved batch cooking methods. You set up hot and cold food stations, properly stocking counters and carts with plates, napkins, and condiments in preparation for the meal service. As students and staff move through the cafeteria line, you serve food according to portioning guidelines, ensuring every meal meets nutritional requirements and program standards. Between service periods, you record temperatures and times on the appropriate logs, enter cafeteria sales, and maintain an accurate account of cash collected and meals served. After service, you wash and properly stack dishes, trays, pots, pans, and utensils, clean kitchen equipment and work areas following Standard Operating Procedures, and help receive, unpack, date, store, and rotate supplies. Success in this role looks like a clean, safe kitchen, happy and well-fed students, and a team that runs like clockwork — day in and day out. Responsibilities Prepare menu items using standardized recipes according to the daily schedule and approved batch marking methods. Set up and stock hot and cold food stations and serving counters with food, plates, napkins, and condiments prior to meal service. Serve food properly to students, staff, and faculty in accordance with standardized recipes, portion control guidelines, and meal pattern requirements. Record all times and temperatures on appropriate logs and ensure compliance with food safety Standard Operating Procedures. Enter cafeteria sales, maintain accurate accounts of cash collected and meals served, complete bank deposits, and submit end-of-day reports. Wash, sanitize, and properly stack dishes, trays, pots, pans, and utensils using commercial dishwashers and/or sinks. Receive, unpack, date, store, and rotate supplies in freezer, cooler, and stock room areas. Operate a variety of kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, hot and cold storage cabinets, slicers, can openers, and mixers; dismantle and sanitize equipment after use. Requirements Required ! Successfully complete the Marietta City Schools Gemalto Background Check prior to beginning work. ! Adhere to the Marietta City Schools dress code: black pants, black socks, a black or white polo shirt, and black water/oil-proof, non-skid, slip-resistant shoes. ! Comply with food safety hygiene standards; synthetic nails, nail polish, and jeweled nails are prohibited; hair must be tied back and away from the face. ! Able to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis and lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally. ! Able to stand, walk, and remain on your feet for extended periods throughout the shift. ! Able to work in varying temperature environments, including walk-in coolers and near hot cooking equipment. ! Hard-working. ! Punctual. ! Works efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment. ! Adheres to the rules and guidelines set by the school. ! Positive attitude. ! Strong work ethic. ! Commitment to food safety. ! Represents the school and program in a positive and professional manner. ! Available to work part-time shifts during school hours, Monday through Friday, following the Marietta City Schools academic calendar. ! Ability to collaborate closely with kitchen staff and cafeteria management. ! Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace. Preferred Previous experience in food service, cafeteria, or commercial kitchen settings is a plus. Familiarity with food safety principles, including proper temperature control, sanitation, and hygiene practices (ServSafe certification or equivalent is a bonus). Experience handling cash, point-of-sale systems, or basic record-keeping in a food service or retail environment. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and supervisors in a school setting.
