Food Preparation Worker

Company Overview Montessori System Preschool of Blackhawk County is a licensed preschool and daycare dedicated to nurturing children from 18 months to six years old. We focus on creating a safe, engaging, and educational environment that supports early childhood development.

Position Summary:

The Food Preparation Worker supports the daily meal service for children in a childcare setting by preparing, portioning, and serving nutritious meals and snacks. This role helps ensure compliance with health, safety, and nutrition standards while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. Experience with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and portion meals and snacks according to established menus and nutrition guidelines Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate, balanced meals Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including proper food storage and handling Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, food prep areas, and equipment Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking tools as needed Assisting with recording meal counts and assist with required documentation Support inventory management, including receiving and storing food deliveries Accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions as directed Work collaboratively with childcare staff to ensure timely meal service Assist with kitchen organization and general upkeep

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous experience in food service, childcare, or institutional kitchen settings preferred Familiarity with CACFP guidelines and recordkeeping preferred Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion sizes Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motions

Work Environment:

Fast-paced childcare setting Exposure to kitchen equipment, heat, and cleaning chemicals

Additional Requirements:

Must pass background check as required for childcare staff Willing to take required courses / trainings Experience working in a childcare or school nutrition program preferred Prior CACFP experience, including meal pattern requirements and documentation preferred
