PAY RANGE:
$15.53 DEPARTMENT MISSION The Salvation Army Joliet Corps serves residents in need from across Will County from our facility on the East Side of Joliet. We provide hope and compassion for children, families, and adults. The Healthy Food for All project addresses food insecurity and provides access and support for good nutrition.
OUTCOMES
Assist with the operations of the Food Pantry at the Joliet Corps.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Office clerical tasks: making copies, sending mailings, organizing files, creating documents. Sorting canned food, fresh produce, frozen food, bakery items, beverages. Assist with tasks of community outreach, public relations, communication, social media, etc. Help with drive-thru food distribution events, moving pallets of food, checking in customers, placing food in cars, etc. Helping teachers with classes on nutrition, cooking, meal planning, etc. Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Under general supervision of the Corps Administrator with minimal freedom to plan, schedule and carry out responsibilities within established policies and guidelines. This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals. Included in this will be an evaluation of the level of service provided.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Previous experience in a food pantry helpful.
COMPETENCIES
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak with potential businesses and other donors in the community. A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities. Highly organized with keen attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter. Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved. This individual will keep the Corps Administrator informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility. This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 25 pounds. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC and operate a food pantry. The work environment for this position includes an office and pantry environment with a low to moderate noise level. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
