Job Description

The Food Service Assistant is responsible for assisting culinary teachers in providing a supportive, challenging, respectful classroom environment in our student-run restaurant. The ideal candidate has experience in the culinary industry, as well as in a school setting working directly with students. The candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with a diverse group of students. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of various cooking methods and skills to execute these methods, as well as experience with a full range of food-service operations (back of the house, front of the house, catering, etc.), and demonstrate an ability to execute clearly stated operating procedures. The ideal candidate prioritizes relationship building, connects well with diverse groups of students, and has the interest and ability to contribute to program development in a meaningful way.
Responsibilities:
Support culinary teacher(s) with delivering instruction Provide 1:1 and small group support to students in culinary classes Assist with the supervision of students in both front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house settings Execute operating procedures with attention to detail and accuracy Participate in meetings with the culinary teaching team where appropriate
Required Qualifications:
Educational and/or employment experience directly related to the culinary arts Proficiency in supporting students in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment Experience working with a diverse population of high school students in a classroom setting Excellent interpersonal and communication skills ServeSafe certification preferred
