Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, provides basic dining assistance to long term care residents which meets the specific needs of the residents during mealtime and is within the scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the facility
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent

Successful completion of State approved 'Paid Feeding Assistant Program' Current CPR/AED Certification

OF TIME PERFORMING DUTY A
Provides dining assistance utilizing appropriate techniques to specific residents, in area of their choosing, who have been specifically identified by the interdisciplinary team. B Communicates with nursing and CNA staff to ensure correct diet is being delivered to the correct resident C Contributes to the development and implementation of the patient care plan regarding resident's food and fluid intake, adherence to prescribed diet, food preferences, chewing or swallowing difficulties D Observes and communicates changes in the resident's food and fluid intake to the charge nurse E Displays appropriate responses to resident behaviors, meets needs in a timely manner F Adheres to all infection control standards of practice G Demonstrates sensitivity to resident rights and dignity minimizing feelings of embarrassment or isolation related to their inability to assist themselves with food or fluid intake H Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic dining experience for resident using effective communication and interpersonal skills I Identifies when help is required in providing patient care needs and seeks it appropriately, recognizing own limitations J As a member of the health team, maintains harmonious relationship with unit and co-workers providing support and assistance within scope of practice to to ensure quality care K Supports the department by attending, and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary L Completes all annual mandatory training M Adheres to all organizational personnel policies and procedures
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS JOB TITLE
Physical Demands:
Frequent extremely heavy physical effort (lift, carry, push, pull 50 pounds or more) Frequent standing or walking Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients Lifts supplies and equipment Manual dexterity and mobility Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching Visual acuity with or without correction Acute sense of hearing with or without correction
Working Conditions:
Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne disease, infections, and contagious disease May be exposed to biohazardous, radioactive substances, toxic chemicals May be exposed to explosive chemicals, gases, and low level radiation Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness) Handles emergency or crisis situations Performs emergency care Requires judgment/action which could have a significant impact on a patient's life May be exposed to all types of weather and temperatures
Required Protective Equipment:
Gown, medical gloves, face shield as necessary and other equipment as required by OSHA regulations and hospital policy.
