No Location CountyRockland Street AddressNYS Office of Mental Health 145 Old Orangeburg Rd CityOrangeburg StateNY Zip Code10962 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionThe Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Food Service Worker 2, Grade 9, position at the Cook Chill Production Center (CCPC) located in Orangeburg, New York. CCPC produces wholesome food that meets the nutritional and budgetary needs of its customers, which include OMH facilities, other state and government facilities, and non-profit agencies. Cook Chill is a system which prepares large quantities of food with an extended shelf life. The incumbent of the Food Service Worker (FSW) 2 position is responsible for food preparation and sanitation in assigned work areas as well as assuring that all regulatory standards are maintained. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise and work with a subordinate staff of FSW 1's in production and sanitation assignments.
  • Periodically review work of subordinates for compliance with established standards.
  • Provide in-service training for subordinates in procedures and techniques required in the performance of their job.
  • Prepare, cook, chill and package food products in accordance with CCPC, local, state and federal (USDA/FDA) health code standards.
  • Clean, sanitize and maintain work areas and food equipment in accordance with CCPC standards.
  • Breakdown and reassemble food equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Prepare and submit pre-operation and post-operation inspection reports according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and follow up with supervisors to assure that issues are resolved in assigned work areas.
  • Complete written reports as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsCandidates must have one year of permanent service as a Food Service Worker 2, Grade 9, and be eligible for transfer; OR be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Opportunity:
Two years of qualifying experience in commercial or institutional food preparation or food service.
Examples of qualifying experience:
employment in a hospital, nursing home, or school cafeteria; residential dining hall; restaurant; or diner. Experience must have included responsibility for food preparation, food service, and ordering of food and non-food supplies. Appropriate
  • formal culinary arts or food service training which resulted in a certificate or degree may be credited towards the above experience as follows: 1. a six-month certificate training program
  • - up to six months of the required experience; or 2. a one-year certificate training program
  • - up to one year of the required experience; or 3. an associate degree
  • or higher in culinary arts or food service from a regionally accredited college or university - up to two years of the required experience.
  • Appropriate formal food service training programs are programs accredited by one of the following: American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC) or non-degree programs recognized by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Educational Assurance program or programs accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).
