FOOD SERVICES ASSISTANT
Position Goal:
To efficiently perform the duties involved in the safe preparation and serving of food to school students and cleaning up the kitchen equipment and facilities. This is a part-time position, requiring 5.5 hours per day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare food according to standardized recipes and HACCP procedures Prepares appealing, nutritious meals to all students in accordance with National School Breakfast and Lunch programs. Serve food using proper portion control. Use proper sanitation and safety procedures in accordance with the Montgomery County Health Department. Complete daily production records generated through the Primero Edge program. Monitor the temperature of food through the production and service process. Temperatures must be documented on the appropriate log. Counts must be taken of all items offered on a daily basis. They must be recorded on the appropriate log. Store food in proper location and date all items. Ensure equipment and designated areas are kept clean Operate a variety of kitchen equipment properly and safely. Assist or perform moving items to storage and/or prep areas, including freezers, shelves, etc. Work in any area that is needed (i.e.; salad prep, sandwich prep, hot foods prep, cashier, dish room) Ensures cash registers are prepared for daily transaction and all appropriate supplies are on hand. Follows appropriate end-of-day cashier procedures. Including cross checking all deposits with computer reports. Complete food and supply orders as required. Follows all policies and procedures established by the Food Service Department. Ensures student meals are claimed appropriately I.E. Reimbursable meals, a la carte, etc. Use good public relation techniques with students, teachers, principal, and parents. Cooperates with fellow workers using a Teamwork approach to kitchen duties.

POSITION GOAL
The Food Service Manager is responsible for the leadership and management of the school kitchen and its staff. This includes supervising employees, maintaining equipment in proper working order, monitoring food quality and quantity, preparing and serving meals in compliance with the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. In addition, the manager is responsible for efficient inventory control as well as HACCP records. The manager will establish and maintain a healthy and cooperative relationship with the building principal, faculty, staff, co-workers, students and parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and trains staff in food preparation, safety and sanitation procedures. Plans daily staff work schedules, food production and delivery cycles. Manages and approves payroll on a weekly basis Prepares meals for students in accordance with National School Breakfast and Lunch Program requirements. Supervises all food preparation to maintain the highest quality of appearance and flavor. Maintains quality and quantity control through the use of standardized recipes. Maintains student allergy information and prepares allergen free workspaces to prevent cross contamination. Works closely with school nurses on student?s dietary needs. Ensures all food and supply orders are placed in a timely manner Verifies and signs all delivery slips. Inspects food, temperature, etc. to ensure food is received in a safe manner. Reviews delivery slips for accuracy and correct pricing. Maintains proper inventory controls and keeps accurate records. Oversees cash register checkout and reconciles cash against cash register database. Documents all production processes on production records generated through the Primero Edge program. All records are to be entered into the Primero Edge system in a timely manner. Records and maintains all required temperature logs Instructs and supervises staff on proper portion control. Use proper sanitation and safety procedures in accordance with the Montgomery County Health Department. Ensures personnel are operating equipment safely. Coordinates catering events and special functions Analyzes menu options in order to increase student participation. Ensures food is stored properly and dated appropriately. Work in any area that is needed (i.e., salad prep, sandwich prep, hot foods prep, cashier). Use good public relation techniques with students, teachers, principal, and parents. Assist parents and students with questions over the phone, mail or by email. Follows the policies and procedures established by the Food Service Department. Completes 10 hours of professional development training annually. Must attend monthly manager?s meetings Must be ServSafe certified

Temperature extremes (i.e.; walk-in freezer, hot stove/oven) Work around moving objects (i.e.; grater, slicer, mixer) Wet and slippery surfaces Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
Temperament:
Ability to work as a member of a team Must demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with students, teachers, principal, and parents Must be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented Must be able to calmly handle stressful situations
Cognitive Ability:
Ability to read, write and do simple computation. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and data. Ability to organize, supervise, train, and evaluate
Food Service Workers Educational Level:
Combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma or GED.
Experience:
Prior food service experience necessary, school experience preferred. License/Clearance(s): PA Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Clearance, Federal Criminal History Record and PA Sexual Misconduct/ Abuse Disclosure Release.

When the kitchen supervisor is not present at the facility, the Cook will act in a supervisory role.
