Job Description

Supportive work in which the employee assists in providing food and beverage preparation and service to the residents of the County's nursing home. Responsible for maintaining a sanitized kitchen and clean dining rooms. Work is performed under the direction of the Dietary Supervisor and / or Dietary Director.
Salary range:
$14.00/hour and up, depending on experience. PLUS Weekend Differential of an extra $1.50/hour!
  • Must be reliable and come to work, when scheduled.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test, including THC.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Uses safe and sanitary techniques while handling, serving, and storing food and drinks at all times.
  • Prepares for meal service in multiple dining rooms by setting tables and beverage stations neatly and accurately.
  • Fills condiment stations as needed.
  • Assembles food plates and trays, ensuring proper portion control. Dishes food items neatly.
  • Prepares and serves resident's special food/drink requests.
  • Prepares between-meal nourishments and snacks for residents.
  • Prepares and delivers refreshments for special functions such as medical staff meetings, family meetings, etc.
  • Restocks multiple unit pantries after food deliveries, rotating stock as needed.
  • Operates standard kitchen equipment in a safe manner.
  • Completes cleaning duties in multiple pantries, dish rooms, and dining rooms, ensuring all areas are left in sanitary condition.
  • Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment.
  • Follows correct dish washing procedures.
  • Interacts with coworkers, residents, and family members with courtesy and patience.
  • Observes and follows resident's rights of dignity, respect, and privacy.
  • Follows all personnel policies of Bedford County Nursing Home.
  • Performs and accomplishes other related duties as assigned or unrelated duties in case of an emergency.
  • Participates in employee meetings and training as needed.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability.
  • Will work assigned schedule and be responsible for clocking in/out accurately.
  • Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Education/Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the tenth grade. Prior experience in long term care food service preferred.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of kitchen, pantry, and dish-room supplies, equipment, and cleaning practices, with the ability to use them economically and efficiently Ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to read and write; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, residents, and the general public.

This is a medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and repetitive motions Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral perception visual inspection involving small defects and / or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Environmental Factors:
May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and infectious agents. May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. May be required to wear appropriate hair restraints (i.e. hair net, beard guard, etc.). Must be able to tolerate various air temperatures. May be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
Special/Additional Requirements:
Subject to a complete criminal history background search and drug screening with acceptable results. Worker will be required to work on weekends, holidays and may be required to work overtime hours as defined by the needs of the department. This position is designated as essential personnel. In accordance with the County's personnel policy, essential personnel are critical to the continuation of key operations and series and are expected to report to work, unless otherwise directed by management, in all weather conditions.
