Seeking an experienced Meat Butcher able to work a total of approximately 18-26 hours a week and every other weekend. Schedule will be busier in the warmer months and slower in the winter months. Ideal position for someone semi-retired. Meat, Poultry, and Seafood Preparation Weigh, package, wrap, and label cuts of meat, poultry, and seafood, including ground products. Assist meat cutters in packaging freshly cut meats and seafood. Grind hamburger meat and form hamburger patties as needed. Learn to cut select meat and seafood items under supervision. Product Handling and Inventory Receive deliveries and verify products against invoices. Inspect meat, poultry, and seafood for quality and freshness. Assist in storing product and ensure proper rotation according to expiration dates. Ensure all meat, seafood, and chicken cases are fully stocked. Follow guidelines for disposing of damaged or expired products. Customer Service Be knowledgeable about the location of all items in the store to assist customers. Provide assistance by answering questions regarding meats, poultry, and seafood. Ensure a safe and positive environment and shopping experience for customers. Equipment and Safety Utilize and maintain equipment as required by the department; report any equipment issues immediately. Maintain a clean, neat, organized, and safe work environment, including floors, trash, and cardboard baling. Clean and sanitize all equipment, including grinders, band saws, knives, trays, work surfaces, meat coolers, and display cases. Observe safe methods of performing all duties to prevent accidents and protect company property. Merchandising and Sales Support Merchandise the department to maximize sales. Assist in other departments as needed, performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Meat clerk or basic butcher experience strongly preferred Must have a High School Diploma or GED Must be at least 18 years of age Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities based on customer needs. Must be willing to learn on the job Interact with customers in a friendly and helpful way; answer the phone. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ideally a car Must be a self-starter and able to work independently. Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies. Physical Requirements Ability to work in variable temperatures Primarily a standing position where an employee will be required to stand in one place Ability to tolerate cleaning agents during routine cleaning Most of the time spent will be moving about frequently on a hard surface. There will be bending, lifting, pulling, reaching and or stooping. Unload pallets and move merchandise to Meat Department that weights 40 lbs. and that occasionally weighs up to 90 lbs. Regularly lift, pull, push, and rotate merchandise that weights 40 lbs. and that occasionally weights 90 lbs. Work in an environment that includes continuous duties in refrigerated cutting rooms and storage areas with occasional duties in freezer maintained at temperatures as low as 20 degrees (Fahrenheit) below zero.
