DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Assistant Meat Manager, no one day is ever the same. This position allows you to be a cut above the rest by ensuring the day-to-day operations and sales of our meat department run smoothly. To be successful in this position, our Assistant Meat Manager is interested in our people (supervising, training, and scheduling), our products (cutting, trimming, and preparing our delicious high-quality meats), and delivering customer service to earn the loyalty of the customers we serve. Main Responsibilities Oversee daily operations of the Meat Department to ensure efficiency, sales growth, and product quality Supervise, train, schedule, and assign duties to meat cutters and clerks Deliver high-quality customer service and build customer loyalty Cut, trim, and prepare meat products using proper tools and techniques Maintain inventory accuracy, perform monthly counts, and update records Write and manage meat orders; verify delivery accuracy and quality Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and workplace standards Implement merchandising programs, pricing, signage, and promotional displays Monitor product freshness, remove expired items, and follow markdown procedures Analyze reports to identify operational successes and improvement opportunities Handle special customer orders and customized cuts Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and safety standards Soft Skills Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal communication Leadership and team-building abilities Coaching and employee development mindset Attention to detail and quality focus Time management and organizational skills Problem-solving and decision-making capability Adaptability in a fast-paced retail environment Initiative and self-motivation Reliability and accountability Positive attitude and professionalism Competencies Department operations management Staff supervision and workforce planning Inventory control and merchandising execution Food safety compliance and regulatory adherence Sales and performance analysis Product quality assurance Equipment operation and safety practices Customer experience management Pricing and promotional execution Multi-tasking and workload prioritization Knowledge Meat cuts, processing techniques, and product preparation Food safety standards (temperature controls, sanitation, handling) Retail operations and grocery/meat department workflows Inventory systems and record-keeping practices Merchandising strategies and pricing integrity Use of meat processing equipment (saws, grinders, tenderizers) Company policies, procedures, and compliance standards Basic computer skills for reports, communication, and scheduling Abilities Ability to safely operate meat processing tools and machinery Ability to lift, carry, and handle products (up to ~35 lbs continuously) Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Ability to multi-task and perform under time pressure Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team Ability to identify quality issues and take corrective action Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members Ability to adapt schedules (early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays)
