Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the meat department. This role ensures high standards in product quality, food safety, merchandising, and customer service while helping drive sales and team performance. Key Responsibilities Department Operations Assist in managing day-to-day meat department functions including cutting, packaging, stocking, and merchandising Ensure all products meet company standards for freshness, quality, and proper labeling Maintain full, attractive displays that align with merchandising plans and sales goals Support ordering and inventory management to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink Leadership & Team Support Supervise, train, and coach meat department associates to ensure strong execution and engagement Assign daily tasks and ensure completion of operational priorities Lead by example in productivity, food safety, and customer service Act as department lead in the absence of the Meat Manager Customer Service Provide prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable service to customers Assist with custom cuts, special orders, and product recommendations Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate when necessary Inventory & Shrink Control Execute proper rotation practices (FIFO) to ensure freshness and reduce waste Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering to control out-of-stocks and overstock Identify shrink opportunities and implement corrective actions Food Safety & Compliance Ensure strict adherence to sanitation, food safety, and temperature control standards Maintain a clean and organized department, including prep areas and equipment Follow all company policies, health regulations, and safety procedures Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous experience in meat cutting or meat department operations preferred Leadership or supervisory experience is a plus Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs Frequent standing, bending, cutting, and reaching Ability to work in refrigerated environments for extended periods Work Environment Fast-paced retail setting Exposure to sharp tools and cold conditions Flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays Success Factors Strong attention to quality, safety, and detail Effective leadership and team development skills Commitment to customer service and departmental excellence Ability to balance production needs with business performance goals
