Twigs to Trees Child Development Center is looking for a creative and organized Chef to prepare fresh, flavorful meals for up to 45 children each day. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of meal preparation, ensuring that every child receives high quality food that meets dietary guidelines and promotes healthy growth. Your leadership will foster a positive kitchen environment, inspire team collaboration, and uphold the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. Responsibilities Prepare breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack for up to 45 children, following created menu plans and
CACFP/USDA
guidelines. Plan and develop age appropriate menus that incorporate nutritional guidelines and accommodate dietary restrictions. Prepare and cook meals with precision, ensuring quality, taste, and presentation meet high standards. Supervise kitchen staff, providing leadership, training, and support to foster teamwork and efficiency. Manage inventory control, including ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and minimizing waste. Oversee food safety practices by washing dishes and managing daily kitchen sanitation, cleanliness, adhering to sanitation protocols, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. Coordinate meal service times and deliver meals to classrooms timely and efficiently. Accommodate special dietary needs and allergies effectively. Experience Proven experience in food production within a childcare or educational setting is preferred. Extensive background in banquet service, fine dining, or catering demonstrates versatility in food presentation and preparation. Supervising experience in a kitchen or food service environment is essential for effective team management. Strong knowledge of food safety standards, inventory management, and kitchen operations is required. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team and manage shift schedules efficiently. Familiarity with menu planning, food handling regulations, and restaurant management practices enhances your suitability for this role. Experience in the food industry involving culinary expertise across various settings such as restaurants or hospitality environments is highly valued. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Current Safe Serve Certificate (or willingness to obtain). Minimum 3 years' experience cooking in a childcare, school or similar setting is a plus. Experience preparing meals with diverse ingredients and a variety of cooking techniques. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multitasking environment. Strong understanding of food safety, health regulations, and licensing standards. Ability to read and follow instructions, scale recipes, and maintain accurate records. Experience with diverse populations and a culturally responsive approach to food. Willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification if not already certified. Must pass FBI, DOJ, and Child Abuse Index clearances. Health screening including a negative TB test. Completion of required online health and safety trainings.
