Our dining room serves locals, winemakers, collectors, tourists from all over the world, and guests who really understand hospitality. In 2024 and 2025, the World of Fine Wine named Compline's wine list as the Best in North America. In 2026, the restaurant retained Chef Sean Massey and Chef Diego Isunza Kahlo (formerly Pujol) for long-term residencies as we elevate our cuisine and position the restaurant as one of the top dining destinations in Napa Valley. We are seeking a Chef de Cuisine to lead the day-to-day kitchen operations while working in collaboration with ownership and our Culinary Director. The Chef de Cuisine Role The restaurant operates with a strong connection to wine culture, seasonal California ingredients, and a kitchen environment that values precision, teamwork, and thoughtful cooking. This position is ideal for a Chef who is organized, calm under pressure, and excited to help shape a dynamic menu within an established culinary vision. Role Overview The Chef de Cuisine oversees all daily kitchen operations including service execution, staff leadership, prep systems, and food quality. This role ensures that the culinary standards established by ownership and the Culinary Director are executed consistently while maintaining a positive and professional kitchen culture. We provide full medical and dental insurance, and one week of paid time off annually. The company is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and for several days in January every year. Key Responsibilities Lead nightly dinner service and maintain kitchen standards Oversee daily prep production and station organization Manage kitchen staff scheduling and performance Maintain food quality, consistency, and plating standards Collaboration with Culinary Director on menu development and seasonal updates Ensure proper food cost management and portion control Maintain health and safety standards Support hiring, training, and development of kitchen staff Work closely with the front of house team to ensure smooth service flow Creative Direction in the Chef de Cuisine Role Creative menu input is encouraged! Menu development and new dishes may be proposed by the Chef de Cuisine and team members, with final approval and direction guided through collaboration with the Culinary Director and ownership. This structure allows creativity while maintaining a cohesive culinary identity.
The Ideal Candidate Has:
Strong leadership and organizational skills Experience leading professional kitchen teams Ability to run composed, detail-focused service Passion for seasonal California ingredients Interest in wine-driven cuisine and thoughtful pairings Professional, calm, and collaborative mindset Qualifications Minimum 3-5 years in a leadership kitchen role Fine dining or high-quality restaurant experience highly preferred Strong foundation in classical technique and modern seasonal cooking
