Job Description

The Joint Sushi & Tapas is looking for an exceptional Sous Chef and experienced Line Cook to join our team in Ocean Beach. We are not just a sushi restaurant. Our kitchen features sushi, seafood, steaks, tapas, seasonal specials, house-made sauces, and chef-driven dishes. We are committed to sourcing the best ingredients possible for our guests, including seafood delivered six days a week from Southern California's top Japanese fish supplier and premium produce sourced through Specialty Produce. We are looking for culinary professionals who take pride in their craft, care about quality, and want to be part of a kitchen that values creativity, consistency, teamwork, and hospitality. Sous Chef Responsibilities Assist in leading daily kitchen operations Help manage and develop the BOH team Maintain high standards for food quality, consistency, and presentation Assist with inventory, ordering, food cost controls, and kitchen organization Train and coach cooks to improve skills and execution Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety standards are met Work closely with ownership on menu development and seasonal specials Lead by example during service Line Cook Responsibilities Execute menu items consistently and efficiently Prepare and organize stations for service Follow recipes and kitchen standards Maintain a clean and organized workspace Work well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen Support fellow team members and contribute to a positive kitchen culture Qualifications Previous restaurant kitchen experience required Scratch kitchen experience preferred Strong work ethic and attention to detail Positive attitude and team-first mentality Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays Passion for food, learning, and continuous improvement An understanding and passion for hospitality What Makes The Joint Different Locally owned and operated Creative, chef-driven environment Premium seafood and produce Opportunity to contribute ideas for nightly, weekly, and seasonal specials Stable, established restaurant with a strong reputation Ownership that values quality, hospitality, and team culture One of the best BOH and FOH teams in San Diego Compensation Competitive pay based on experience (salary for sous chef and hourly for line cook $21-25+Tips) Free meal off the menu with each shift and discounts when off work Full-time positions available and part time is also possible Growth opportunities for the right candidates If you're a talented Sous Chef or Line Cook looking for a kitchen that cares about quality ingredients, creativity, teamwork, and delivering an exceptional guest experience, we'd love to hear from you.
