We are looking for an experienced Executive Sous Chef to join our leadership team at La Mar San Francisco . This is a key culinary leadership role for someone who can lead high-volume kitchen operations, uphold elevated culinary standards, and support the Executive Chef in driving quality, consistency, profitability, and team development. About the Role The Executive Sous Chef will oversee the full kitchen operation, including prep, dishwashing, main kitchen, cold kitchen, and pastry coordination. This role works closely with the Executive Chef, General Manager, and culinary leadership team to ensure smooth daily operations, excellent food quality, strong cost control, and a positive work environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on culinary leader with strong technical skills, operational discipline, and the ability to coach, train, and inspire kitchen teams. This person should be comfortable managing food and labor costs, leading service execution, maintaining standards, and contributing to menu development and special dishes. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, train, and guide cooks using strong culinary techniques, best practices, and operational standards. Supervise all kitchen stations and ensure the team is fully prepared for lunch and dinner service. Support the Executive Chef in creating new dishes, specials, tastings, and menu improvements. Maintain La Mar's standards for flavor, presentation, temperature, allergies, consistency, and quality. Expedite food orders and ensure excellent execution throughout service. Oversee prep, production, rotation, cleanliness, sanitation, and station organization. Ensure compliance with proper food handling, sanitation, and ServSafe standards. Manage food cost, labor cost, purchasing, inventory, ordering, and production according to forecasts. Conduct weekly inventory and monitor product quality upon delivery. Use systems such as Restaurant365 , Toast
POS , MS
Office, and other operational platforms. Prepare schedules according to forecast and business needs. Partner with leadership on marketing opportunities, events, and restaurant initiatives. Support employee development through coaching, feedback, performance expectations, and corrective action when needed. Help create a positive, professional, safe, and team-oriented kitchen culture. Qualifications 4-6 years of relevant culinary leadership experience, preferably in high-volume, full-service restaurants. Previous experience as Sous Chef, Senior Sous Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or similar leadership role. Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food quality standards, inventory, purchasing, and cost control. Experience leading, training, and developing culinary teams. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-standard restaurant environment. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards; ServSafe certification preferred. Experience with Restaurant365, Toast POS, MS Office, or similar systems is a plus. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a physically demanding kitchen environment. What We Offer Competitive annual salary:
