Full Job Description Sous Chef Job Description Position Summary:
The Sous Chef assists in overseeing all kitchen operations within the community, ensuring residents receive high-quality, nutritious, and appealing meals in a safe and sanitary environment. This position supports menu preparation, supervises kitchen staff, maintains food safety standards, and helps provide a positive dining experience for residents, guests, and staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations and meal preparation. Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, recipes, therapeutic diets, and resident preferences. Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including Florida assisted living requirements. Supervise dietary staff during shifts and provide leadership, training, and support. Monitor food quality, portion control, presentation, and temperature standards. Assist with ordering, inventory management, and proper food storage procedures. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, workstations, storage areas, and dining preparation areas. Ensure compliance with food safety and infection control procedures, including HACCP guidelines. Assist with scheduling kitchen staff and ensuring adequate staffing coverage. Work collaboratively with nursing staff and administration regarding special dietary needs and resident concerns. Participate in resident events, holiday meals, and special community functions as needed. Ensure kitchen operations remain organized, efficient, and resident-focused. Step into leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Executive Chef. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Culinary training or certification preferred. Minimum of 2 years of cooking or kitchen supervisory experience preferred. Experience in healthcare, assisted living, senior living, or hospitality preferred. Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper sanitation procedures. Ability to prepare meals for large groups while maintaining consistency and quality. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and kitchen equipment. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and safely operate kitchen machinery and tools.
