Full-Time | Food & Beverage Department The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations for the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Cedar Rapids Kernels Catering. This role supports game day food service, team meals, and catering operations while helping maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, organization, and sanitation. The Sous Chef plays an important leadership role in ensuring efficient kitchen operations in a fast-paced sports and entertainment environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations for games, events, team meals, and catering functions Prepare and execute high-quality food for players, staff, suites, and guests Support the planning and preparation of team meals in coordination with nutritional and dietary needs Help lead and supervise kitchen staff during game days and events Assist with food prep, inventory management, ordering, and kitchen organization Ensure all food is prepared and served according to safety and sanitation standards Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, equipment, and storage spaces Assist with catering events both inside and outside of the ballpark as needed Help train and mentor kitchen staff on procedures, expectations, and food quality standards Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Executive Chef Perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications Previous culinary or kitchen leadership experience preferred Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Strong organizational and communication skills Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices (ServSafe Preferred) Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during events and baseball season Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs Work Environment This position operates in a fast-paced kitchen and event environment with exposure to heat, kitchen equipment, large crowds, and varying event demands. Game days, nights, weekends, and holidays are required.
