Job Description

Overview Society Table is a brand-new 40-seat Southern comfort food restaurant built around one simple idea: "Where everyone has a seat." We're searching for an experienced pastry chef to create the sweet finish to every meal, the kind of desserts that bring back memories of grandma's kitchen and keep guests coming back. From banana pudding and peach cobbler to towering layer cakes, you'll have the creative freedom to build a Southern-inspired dessert menu from the ground up. If you take pride in scratch baking, love seeing a guest light up over that first bite, and want to help shape the identity of a new restaurant from day one, we'd love to meet you. Responsibilities Design, develop, and execute a Southern-inspired dessert and pastry menu that complements Society Table's comfort food offerings (think banana pudding, peach cobbler, buttermilk pie, layer cakes, and seasonal specials) Prepare all pastries, desserts, breads, and baked goods from scratch to consistent quality and presentation standards Create and maintain recipes, including accurate portioning, costing, and plating specifications Manage daily prep lists and production schedules to ensure desserts are ready for each service Oversee the pastry station, keeping it clean, organized, and stocked throughout the shift Monitor inventory of baking ingredients and supplies, placing orders or communicating needs to management Properly store, label, and date all items following FIFO and food safety practices Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation standards Collaborate with the kitchen team and management on menu changes, specials, and seasonal offerings Train and guide other kitchen staff on pastry prep and plating when needed Help uphold a positive kitchen culture rooted in our motto, "Where everyone has a seat" Requirements 2+ years of professional pastry experience, preferably in a restaurant or bakery setting (Southern or scratch baking experience strongly preferred) Culinary or pastry arts degree/certification a plus, but equivalent hands-on experience is welcome Strong knowledge of baking techniques, dessert plating, and flavor pairing Proven ability to create and cost out recipes and manage a pastry menu Valid food handler's card (or willingness to obtain one before start date) Excellent attention to detail, consistency, and presentation Ability to work independently and manage time across multiple projects Comfortable in a fast-paced kitchen; able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs Availability for early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Reliable, organized, and a collaborative team player

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
