Job Description

Maplewood Public House in Glen Ellyn, IL (486 Pennsylvania Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137) is seeking a dynamic and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the Executive Chef and CDC, and leading kitchen operations to deliver exceptional dining experiences. Your expertise in food preparation, team management, and kitchen leadership will ensure smooth service, uphold high standards of food safety, and inspire culinary excellence. Duties Assist the Executive Chef and CDC in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality food production Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance, training, and support to foster a motivated and cohesive team Manage food preparation processes, ensuring dishes meet presentation standards and adhere to recipes and dietary requirements Oversee inventory control, including ordering supplies, managing stock levels, and minimizing waste Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards in compliance with health regulations Coordinate catering events and banquet services, ensuring timely delivery of exceptional culinary offerings Support menu planning efforts by contributing innovative ideas aligned with fine dining standards Lead shift management activities, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and resolving operational issues Qualifications Proven experience in a supervisory role within a professional kitchen environment, preferably with banquet or fine dining experience Strong background in food production, culinary techniques, and food handling procedures Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively and foster a positive work environment Knowledge of inventory management practices and food service management systems Experience with dietary accommodations and catering operations is highly desirable Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently during busy service periods Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) or equivalent is required; bartending experience is a plus Prior restaurant or hospitality experience emphasizing kitchen management and menu planning
