Job Description

Sous Chef / Kitchen Lead Location Apache Trout Grill - Traverse City, MI (Part of the 4GR8 Food brand) Job Summary The Kitchen Supervisor / Lead Kitchen Staff Member at Apache Trout Grill plays a key leadership role in supporting daily kitchen operations while maintaining the high standards of food quality, teamwork, and guest experience that define the 4GR8 Food brand. This position works closely with the Executive Chef and management team to lead by example, train staff, and ensure smooth, efficient service during all shifts. Key Responsibilities, Leadership & Supervision Lead kitchen staff during service, setting the pace and maintaining a positive, professional work environment Support training and onboarding of new kitchen team members Provide guidance, coaching, and feedback to line cooks and prep staff Act as a point of contact for kitchen staff in the absence of the Chef or Sous Chef Kitchen Operations Prepare and execute menu items consistently according to Apache Trout Grill standards Ensure proper station setup, breakdown, and cleanliness Monitor food quality, portioning, and presentation during service Assist with inventory management, prep lists, and minimizing food waste Safety & Sanitation Enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards Ensure proper food handling, storage, and labeling procedures are followed Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment Team & Brand Standards Uphold the values and culture of Apache Trout Grill and the 4GR8 Food brand Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service Lead by example in professionalism, reliability, and work ethic Qualifications Previous kitchen leadership experience (Lead Line Cook, Kitchen Supervisor, or similar role preferred) Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen operations Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and teamwork skills Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Lift and carry up to 50 pounds Work in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment Why Work at Apache Trout Grill / 4GR8 Food?
