SOUS CHEF
to join our talented team at Starling in Edina.Qualifications:
- 1+ years of culinary leadership-management experience in a full service restaurant.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with Teams and Outlook is preferred

Sous Chef Job Summary:
The Sous Chef is responsible for providing supportive leadership to kitchen staff throughout food service. The duties include assisting the Chef de Cuisine in monitoring kitchen productivity, expediting orders to ensure quality taste or presentation, ensuring the high quality of food, managing the kitchen staff in accordance with budgets, and maintaining the kitchen's hygiene and safety standards. The Sous Chef takes on additional responsibilities in the CDC's absence to ensure that the kitchen staff has proper direction.Reports to:
Chef deCuisine Key Responsibilities Include Kitchen Management:
Assist CDC in managing all kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, and presentation. Managing scheduling of kitchen staff, ensuring a smooth workflow, and adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations, as well as meeting budgetary targets.Quality Control:
Maintain high-quality standards for food preparation, taste, and presentation. Assist in conducting daily line checks to ensure consistent quality and taste.Ingredient Sourcing and Inventory:
Source and select high-quality ingredients, working with suppliers and vendors. Assist in managing kitchen inventory, including ordering, receiving, and monitoring food costs. Assist in organizing inventory storage locations to ensure efficient use of product and enforce FIFO.Training and Development:
Assist CDC in training, mentoring, and developing kitchen staff, ensuring that they meet culinary standards and follow safety protocols. Provide guidance and feedback to staff members for continuous improvement.Budget Management:
Assist CDC in managing the kitchen budget, including cost control, forecasting, and cost analysis. Assist CDC in minimizing food wastage and maintaining profitability.Hygiene and Safety:
Assist CDC in enforcing strict hygiene, safety, and sanitation standards in the kitchen. Assist CDC in ensuring compliance with health department regulations.Collaboration:
Work closely with the CDC and other restaurant management team to align kitchen operations with the overall business strategy. Collaborate with other departments, such as front-of-house staff, to ensure a smooth dining experience.Adaptability:
Stay updated on culinary trends, food safety regulations, and industry developments. Adapt to changes in customer preferences and dietary restrictions. Other duties as assigned.We have strong core values:
