Job Description
About us KikiLu Gelato is a small business in Hoboken, NJ. We are an artisanal gelato, cannoli and espresso bar. Our goal is to transport our customer to Italy for an authentic Italian cafe experience. We are looking for an experienced Gelato & Pastry Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for freshly made gelato, breads and pastries and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include making gelato and pastries from scratch, managing inventory , stocking supplies and ensuring kitchen area is clean at all times. We are looking for someone who is friendly, reliable and has excellent customer service skills.
Principle Duties:
Responsible for preparing gelato and dessert items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment. Prepares gelato and desserts of consistent quality following recipes and production; start food items that are prepared ahead of time; date all food containers; note any out-of-stock times or possible shortages to the Kitchen Manager. Demonstrates safe food handling practices and follow safety procedures for using equipment and cleaning supplies. Operates and monitors proper functioning of equipment to include gelato machine, mixers and choppers; follow safety procedures for using equipment; sanitize work area during and after use.Responsibilities:
Completing prep cook list as made by Production Manager and/or Production Supervisor. Assemble ingredients to prepare foods according to standard recipes, measure, weight, portion and label according to guidelines. This list includes making gelato, breads, cakes, small pastries and pies. Stocking prep cook area with all goods needed for their shift, butter, milk, bananas, coconut, nuts, storage containers, utensils, etc. Cleaning prep cook area including walls, tables, all mixers, sweeping and mopping floor. Stocking goods for the next prep cook shift. Keeping an inventory of ingredients needed and keeping them stocked as necessary. Keeping the Production Manager/Floor Supervisor aware of progress throughout the day, as well as bring to the Manager's attention of any stock that we are running low or out of.Physical demands and work environment:
Position requires standing and walking for period of 4-8 hours without a rest break. Occasional moderate to heavy lifting and carrying, bending, reaching overhead and use of ladder required. Work environment includes working with hot cooking equipment. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: High energy positive person who can work with a diverse group of people. Follows policies and procedures. Takes directions well and hits the ground running but will ask questions if need be. Understands expectations of role and works within the boundaries of the role. Organized, good time management skills. Hours of work for this position are approximately 15-25 hours per week.Job Type:
