Job Summary Kitchen Angels is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to support our culinary operations. As a key member of our team, the Sous Chef will coordinate preparation of nutritious meals for our clients, oversee kitchen volunteers, and ensure smooth daily operations in collaboration with the Director of Food Services/Chef. This role is integral to maintaining the quality and mission-driven service Kitchen Angels is known for. The Ideal Candidate The Ideal Candidate is a mission-driven culinary leader w/ 3-5 years in kitchen management, blending strong technical skills with the ability to lead volunteers to fulfill Kitchen Angel's mission. Previous experience in a food-focused non-profit is preferred, as is experience with high volume production for dietary tracks. Minimum Qualifications 2 years in kitchen management or culinary field, or a degree/certificate in culinary arts, or an equivalent combination of the two totaling two years. Food Handler's Certification . Food Manager's Certificate to be obtained within 30 days of employment.Key Responsibilities Volunteer Mentorship & Support:
Train, mentor, and lead diverse teams of volunteers, fostering an inclusive environment and facilitating cooperation in cooking.Culinary Execution:
Assist in planning, preparing, and cooking high-quality meals while collaborating with the Director to develop recipes that utilize seasonal ingredients and donations.Kitchen Leadership:
Oversee daily kitchen operations in the absence of the Director, ensuring a productive, courteous, and efficient workflow.Inventory & Resource Management:
Monitor inventory levels, place and receive orders, and maintain accurate records to ensure the kitchen stays fully stocked.Food Safety & Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, including overseeing the proper food preparation, sealing, labeling, and storage of items by dietary category.Operational Efficiency:
Reduce food waste through efficient utilization of ingredients and assist in maintaining daily logs and administrative records.Facility Upkeep:
Share in the responsibility of kitchen cleaning and equipment maintenance to ensure a safe, functional commercial kitchen environment.Mission Alignment:
Act as a flexible team player, performing various duties as assigned to support the overall mission of providing nourishment to the community. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods. Comfortable working in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold, and cooking equipment. Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this position is $24-26/hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
