PAY RANGE BASED ON FULL TIME HOURS
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Head Chef, the Chef is responsible for the assistance in all aspects needed in the preparation of the daily kitchen activities. Key responsibilities include keeping up-to-date with sanitary regulations and food safety, delegating tasks to the kitchen staff, cooking food in a timely manner, studying recipes, setting up menus, overseeing all activity and food production, using proper knife handling skills, and properly labeling and dating items for kitchen use.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Prepare and cook food as ordered. 2. Assist with menu preparation and creating daily specials. 3. Instruct Line Chefs and other kitchen employees in the preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food. 4. Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that kitchen employees maintain compliance with all health standards and codes. 5. Assist in ordering or requisition of food or other supplies. 6. Check food quantity and quality of food preparation. 7. Perform daily temperature checks and daily dating and labeling of food products to ensure proper rotation of food. 8. Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING
Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to perform all job functions without direct supervision. Ability to work quickly and efficiently as part of a team. Knowledge of all phases of sanitation and health standards and codes, food handling techniques, preparation, cooking procedures, and knife skills. Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE A
high school diploma or GED, plus three (3) years of experience in a similar position in the food service industry, or an equivalent combination of the foregoing experience and training sufficient to indicate the ability to effectively perform the required duties of the position. ServSafe certification preferred. Must be approved for and maintain a valid Video Lottery Gaming Service Employee license issued by the New York State Gaming Commission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an active role with prolonged periods standing and working in a kitchen. Exposure to extreme heat, steam, and cold is present in the kitchen environment. This position includes tasks that may require the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds at a time and bend, crawl, and climb stairs as necessary. This position requires manual dexterity to cut and chop foods and perform other related tasks. Effective communication is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be available to work nights, weekends, and on holidays.
