Job Description
About Vela Vela is seeking an experienced and driven Sous Chef to help lead daily kitchen operations. This position is ideal for a culinary professional who is passionate about leadership, mentoring team members, maintaining high standards, and contributing to an exceptional dining experience. Responsibilities Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations and service execution Lead and supervise kitchen staff during prep and service Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all menu items Train, mentor, and develop cooks and kitchen team members Manage prep lists, inventory, ordering, and food cost controls Maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation standards Help create and execute seasonal menu offerings and specials Step into leadership roles when the Executive Chef is unavailable Qualifications Minimum 2-3 years of culinary leadership experience preferred Strong cooking skills and knowledge of modern kitchen operations Ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Experience with inventory management and food cost control Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Culinary degree or equivalent experience is a plus What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Leadership growth and development opportunities Collaborative and professional culinary environment Staff meals and employee discounts This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated culinary leader looking to grow with a respected restaurant team committed to quality, creativity, and hospitality.
