  • Bowdie's Chophouse | Hilton Head Island, SC The Sous Chef assists the Executive Chef in managing all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, consistency, cleanliness, and efficiency.
This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining Bowdie's Chophouse's reputation for exceptional steaks, seafood, and fine dining experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations and service execution. Supervise, train, and mentor line cooks and other kitchen staff. Ensure all menu items are prepared and presented according to established recipes and quality standards. Monitor food preparation, portion control, and plate presentation. Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Manage inventory, product ordering, receiving, and storage procedures. Control food and labor costs while minimizing waste. Coordinate kitchen activities during high-volume service periods to ensure timely ticket completion. Assist with menu development, specials, and seasonal offerings. Conduct quality assurance checks on all food leaving the kitchen. Support scheduling, staff development, and performance management. Step into the Executive Chef's role when needed to ensure seamless kitchen operations.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a leadership role within a high-volume or fine-dining kitchen. Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and kitchen management. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication, organizational, and team leadership skills. Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
