Job Description

About Us At Eats by ATX, our mission is to empower individuals to achieve optimal health and wellness through tailored culinary experiences. We craft chef-driven, high-end meals that prioritize fresh, unprocessed ingredients, saving our clients time and energy while providing culinary convenience and peace of mind. By making healthy living accessible and enjoyable, we transform lives through the power of food. Who This Role Is For This is a senior-level private chef role. We're looking for someone with a fine-dining or high-end restaurant background who can execute chef-driven menus independently, with refined plating and technique. You'll be the sole chef on-site in clients' homes — shopping, cooking, plating, packaging, and owning the full experience from start to finish. This is not an entry-level position. It is not a fit for candidates whose primary experience is in corporate dining, hospital or institutional food service, hotel banquets, school cafeterias, catering volume production, fast-casual, or chain restaurants. Position Overview The ideal candidate is passionate about health and wellness, has a strong culinary background, and brings exceptional cooking skills along with a commitment to outstanding customer service. This role involves grocery shopping, in-home meal preparation, client relationship building, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities Grocery Shopping:
Source and purchase fresh, high-quality ingredients, including organic and specialty items per client preferences.
Meal Preparation:
Prepare and cook meals in clients' homes, executing chef-driven menus from scratch with restaurant-quality results.
Plating & Presentation:
Package meals with attention to composition, color, and presentation — finished dishes should look restaurant-quality, not home-cook-quality.
Food Safety:
Ensure all food is stored, handled, and prepared in accordance with food safety guidelines.
Customer Relationship Building:
Interact professionally and amicably with clients, accommodating their requests, dietary needs, and feedback.
Kitchen Maintenance:
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized kitchen workspace in each client's home.
Packaging and Labeling:
Properly package and label meals for storage and consumption. What We Expect From You A passion for health, wellness, and serving others Minimum of 4-5 years of professional culinary experience, with at least 2 years in a fine-dining, chef-driven, or high-end restaurant environment Demonstrated experience executing à la carte plating standards — not batch, buffet, or catering-style production Experience cooking proteins to temperature on demand (e.g., steak to requested doneness, properly rested and carved) Comfort working from scratch without pre-portioned or pre-prepped components A reliable vehicle A smartphone with an unlimited data plan Active Food Handler's certification Skills Proficiency across multiple cuisines and cooking techniques, with a strong emphasis on healthy, ingredient-forward food Mastery of foundational techniques: proper searing, sauce-making from reductions, emulsifications, refined knife cuts (brunoise, julienne, chiffonade), and proper protein resting Refined plating skills with attention to composition, color, height, and negative space Fluency in cooking for dietary restrictions without compromising the dish — naturally gluten-free menu construction, dairy-free sauce techniques, low-FODMAP awareness, and similar Strong knife skills and working knowledge of kitchen equipment Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene practices Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently as the sole chef on-site Professionalism and reliability This Role Is Probably Not the Right Fit If Your primary experience is in corporate dining, hospital or institutional food service, school cafeterias, hotel banquets, catering, or chain restaurants You're used to working from pre-portioned or pre-made components You're newer to the industry and still developing fundamentals You're uncomfortable owning an entire meal end-to-end — from grocery shopping to final plating — without a team Work Environment & Conditions Ability to work in clients' homes, providing a comfortable and professional service No late nights, no Fridays or Saturdays Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks Comfort driving to various client locations within the greater Austin area Compensation $30-$35 per hour (effective rate based on per-service earnings) Occasional tips Pay structure details discussed during the interview Chefs typically start with 4-5 clients per week and grow into a full roster of up to 10 clients per week. Company Culture The environment at Eats by ATX is one of health, wellness, and innovation. We want every team member to feel they are making a direct impact on clients' lives. All ideas are welcomed and weighed into every decision the company makes. We promote a collaborative and supportive atmosphere where each team member's contributions are valued, and we believe in continuous improvement and professional growth.
