  • Part-time, Full-time, Contract Position Overview The Symbiotic Chef LLC.
is seeking experienced culinary professionals to join our growing personal chef team serving Montgomery County, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. This role is ideal for chefs who are passionate about health-focused cuisine, enjoy working independently, and are seeking a more balanced alternative to traditional restaurant life. Our chefs provide customized in-home meal prep for busy families and professionals, building long-term relationships with recurring clients while maintaining creative freedom in the kitchen. Unlike restaurant environments, our chefs work primarily daytime weekday hours with no late nights, holidays, or double shifts required. Chefs begin part-time and gradually build their client base over time, typically reaching a consistent weekly schedule within 3-6 months based on availability, performance, and client retention. Ideal candidates have experience as a personal chef, executive chef, sous chef, or other culinary leadership roles and are comfortable working independently in client homes with professionalism, organization, and strong communication skills. Compensation Independent contractor chefs are paid per client session based on the client's selected meal prep package. Typical Compensation $200
  • 300 per client session Most chefs complete 1-2 client sessions per day Established chefs working with recurring weekly clients may earn approximately $70,000
  • 80,000 annually New chefs begin with a smaller number of recurring clients while completing onboarding and building their schedules over time.
Most contractors begin with 1-2 weekly clients and gradually increase to 5-8 recurring clients over a 3-6 month period depending on availability, client retention, and performance. Paid Onboarding Contractors receive a $1,000 onboarding stipend upon completion of required onboarding steps, including: In-person shadowing Systems training Online educational modules Onboarding typically requires approximately 45 hours over 1-2 weeks. Responsibilities Create customized menus based on client preferences, dietary needs, and health goals Shop for groceries using client-preferred stores and ingredient standards Prepare, portion, and package meals in clients' homes Maintain a clean and organized workspace during and after service Provide reheating instructions and menu documentation for clients Communicate professionally and build positive client relationships Adapt menus and service based on client feedback and evolving preferences Track ingredients and shop efficiently Read nutrition labels and understand ingredient sourcing Manage scheduling, digital documents, and daily communication independently Ideal Candidate Qualifications 2+ years of experience as a chef, sous chef, executive chef, personal chef, or equivalent culinary role Strong culinary fundamentals and comfort with a variety of cuisines and cooking techniques Experience with health-conscious cooking and accommodating dietary preferences Ability to work independently and confidently in client homes Excellent organization, cleanliness, professionalism, and time management Strong interpersonal and client communication skills Comfortable using Google Docs and Gmail for professional communication and scheduling Active ServSafe certification (or equivalent) Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle for transporting groceries and equipment Must own or be willing to purchase basic cooking equipment and cooler Must successfully complete a background check prior to onboarding Schedule & Work Environment Most client sessions occur Monday-Friday between 9 AM-5 PM Grocery shopping is typically completed beforehand between 7 AM-8:30 AM No evening or weekend shifts required Typical client sessions last approximately 3-4 hours Schedules build gradually as clients are assigned Flexibility and reliability are essential as client schedules may vary slightly week to week Ideal Fit For This Role This role tends to be an excellent fit for chefs who: Enjoy working independently Value daytime scheduling and work-life balance Communicate well with clients Are highly organized and self-directed Enjoy creating healthy, customized meals Are interested in gradually building a long-term client base This role may not be the best fit for candidates seeking immediate full-time hours or a traditional restaurant kitchen environment.
