Position Location This position will be located onsite in Palmer, Alaska. Job Overview Responsible for the preparation of all Center meals in accordance with preplanned menus, within established budgets, and in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. Acts as lead worker for assistant cooks, cook helpers, and Center work base learning students.

Pay:

$22.48/hour plus an additional $5.09/hour (up to maximum of 40 hours per week) used to offset the cost of elected benefits

Hours:

M-F, 5:00am- 1:30pm

Vacation:

Minimum of ten days per year. Actual days are based upon your Service Date

Sick Time:

Accrued sick time at 1 hour per 30 hours worked, capped at 56 hours per year

Holidays:

12 paid holidays per year.

Responsibilities Essential Job Duties:

Prepare and cook quantity of food required according to menu and number of students/staff. Assist in instructing cook helpers and student food services trainees in the safe, hygienic method of preparing and serving appetizing, appealing meals. Ensure work area is safe, clean, and sanitary at all times. Prepare foods as directed for special Center functions and visitors. Assist in cleaning kitchen work areas and cafeteria following each meal. Ensure minimum waste through efficient storage, inventory, and food utilization. Help cook and serve meals, ensuring that prepared foods are held and served at proper temperatures, and all left over foods are properly chilled and stored.

Job Requirements Mandatory:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One (1) year experience in the food service industry. Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract. Must be able to obtain a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification within 30 days of employment.

Preferred:

Previous experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen. •Culinary Arts certification from an accredited institution.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a fast-paced cafeteria or industrial kitchen environment. The position requires exposure to varying temperatures, including heat from ovens and cold conditions when accessing refrigerators or freezers. The work area may occasionally be noisy due to kitchen equipment and food service operations.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the employee to be able to frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
