Work Environment:
Residential Behavioral Health / Substance Use Treatment Center Position Summary The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, safe, and timely meals for residents and staff in accordance with approved menus, dietary guidelines, and food-safety regulations. This role supports the therapeutic environment by ensuring meals are prepared consistently, with care and respect for client needs, while maintaining compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) and Joint Commission standards and internal policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, and portion guidelines Ensure meals meet nutritional requirements and accommodate approved dietary restrictions, allergies, and medical needs Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with food-safety and infection-control standards Properly store, label, rotate, and date food items in accordance with health regulations Monitor food temperatures during preparation, holding, and service Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas after each use Assist with inventory management, including receiving deliveries and reporting supply needs Follow all facility policies related to safety, confidentiality (HIPAA), and professional conduct Collaborate with operations and clinical staff to support resident schedules and programming Report maintenance or safety concerns related to kitchen equipment promptly Participate in required trainings, meetings, and compliance activities as assigned Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Experience in food preparation or cooking (commercial, institutional, or residential setting) Knowledge of basic food-safety and sanitation practices Ability to follow menus, recipes, and written instructions accurately Ability to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as required by a 24/7 treatment environment Level-one Fingerprint Clearance Card Food handlers card Preferred Experience in healthcare, residential treatment, or congregate living settings Food handler's card or equivalent certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe) Familiarity with special diets (e.g., medical, allergy-related, or culturally informed meals) Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment Compliance & Regulatory Expectations Adheres to AZDHS regulations and Joint Commission standards related to food service and safety Maintains confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times Completes required documentation and logs accurately and timely Supports facility readiness for audits, inspections, and surveys Compensation & Work Schedule Non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with FLSA and Arizona labor law Hours may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs Equal Employment Opportunity Camelback Recovery Treatment Centers is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected status.
