The position will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of well-balanced and nutritious children's food for breakfast, lunch, and two snacks. Our daily lunch is cooked from scratch and snacks are typically fresh cut fruit and a healthy crunchy. The position includes following daily food prep (including cutting) and cooking, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, weekly inventory and ordering, and ensuring we meet the dietary and cultural requirements of children that attend the preschool. We are very proud to have an onsite kitchen, along with a vegetable garden. Teaching kids about healthy eating is an important part of our curriculum. We are seeking an energetic, reliable cook who has a positive attitude, can multi-task, is highly organized and can maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen. As part of this position, you must adhere to all rules and regulations of the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department including obtaining or maintaining a certified Food Manager certification, and prepare meals that follow the Food and Nutrition Guidelines of Preschool services during the preparation, cooking and serving of all food. Responsibilities
- Follows all Maricopa County ESD rules and regulations for a permitted kitchen facility.
- All aspects of food preparation including cutting, cooking and serving meals that are timely, tasty, and appetizing in appearance.
- Must be extremely reliable and have very good attendance
- Able to prepare and serve nutritious meals appropriate for preschool children.
- Inventory, ordering, and menu planning for preschool lunches and snacks.
- Makes any necessary menu changes or substitutions, reports, and records such changes as directed.
- Assure that kitchen and food storage areas are clean and properly arranged at all times.
- Have a positive and encouraging attitude both with adults and the young children we serve.
- Monitor children during eating, clean-up, and other times if needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, especially when interacting with students and parents. Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a current Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card from Arizona DPS (or receive prior to starting)
- High school diploma or GED
- Must obtain a Certified Food Manager Card before starting the position.
- Experience preparing, cooking, and serving food to young children.
- Able to plan and prepare new meals in accordance with Food and Nutrition Guidelines of Preschool Services
- High level of organization and flexibility.
- Must complete TB screening prior to starting. Preferred qualifications
- 2+ experience of cooking experience.
- Experience working in a preschool or elementary school setting.
- Able to meet Arizona Department of Health requirements for a teacher/caregiver. Salary and Benefits
